2007 – Fweeb’s Year of Travel

March 30th, 2007 by Fweeb

So yeah… I’m gonna be all over the place this year. It’s going to be expensive, but fortunately a lot of it is work-related, so I should be able to deduct some of the cost at the end of the year.  Not to mention the fact that every last one of these excursions should be great fun (and educational, too!). At any rate, let’s run down the list, shall we?

  • 12 April – 14 April: Defrag Conference in Cleveland, Ohio. I’ll be speaking about last year’s Red Hat High program and some of the plans for what’s going on this year based on those experiences. I’ll also be showing some of the student work.
  • 4 May – 6 May: Libre Graphics Meeting in Montréal, Canada. I’m not speaking, but there are going to be all kinds of artists and developers there from a number of open source graphics programs, including Blender, The GIMP, Inkscape, Krita, the Open Clip Art project, and Scribus. I’m really excited to meet more people who use the tools I use.
  • 9 July – 13 July: Red Hat High in Raleigh, North Carolina. I’ll be teaching (along with some other blenderheads from the community) the track on 3D modeling and animation using Blender. I had blast doing it last year and I’m totally amped about doing it again this year.
  • 5 August – 9 August: SIGGRAPH 2007 in San Diego, California. SIGGRAPH is awesome and I’m sure this year won’t disappoint. Also, I’ll be speaking here as well about Red Hat High. It’s a short presentation, but with student work from two years, it should be a great treat. And I’m sure there’s going to be a fair amount of awesome Blender-related things going on. Of course, I’ll have to leave early because…
  • 9 August – 12 August: My brother is getting married in Montego Bay, Jamaica. WHOA.
  • Late October: Blender Conference in either Amsterdam, The Netherlands or (if my budget can’t hold up) Montréal, Canada. I’d very much prefer the one in Amsterdam. I was there for the 2006 conference and got to meet an incredible number of Blender artists that are doing great work. Perhaps I can find something to give a presentation on this time around.

And that about covers it. Of course, that doesn’t count random road trips that I’ll occasionally make or any of the end-of-year travel that always has a tendency to happen, but it’s as accurate as I’ll probably get for now. If you can make it, you folks should definitely try to come out to one of these things. They’re a bit nerd-tastic, but it’s the awesome kinda nerdiness that rocks like nobody’s business.
