Lie of the Day #662

The first submarine’s design was based on a loaf of bread.  Since bread is porous and full of air pockets, the idea was to control the filling and emptying of these pockets to adjust the buoyancy of the craft.  Unfortunately, they actually made the first prototype by baking a giant loaf of bread… the results ended poorly and set back submarine research by 36 years until an Alabama scientist re-attempted the experiment, but this time using the old Civil War recipe for hard tack instead of regular bread.
