The English language was designed as an ‘anti-magical’ language.  This is why magical chants are all in different languages, most pre-dating English.  When a magical phrase is translated to English, it loses all power, regardless of language.  With English being the most commonly used language in the world (aside from Jibberish), all magic has essentially been exterminated.
