With the proper amount of dedication and a length of rubber band, you can actually harness a lightening bolt and use it to travel large distances.  Unfortunately, steering is still an issue.  Lightening is fast and typically does not go in a direction a person would like to travel (into the ground or across the sky to a place well above the ground), and a rubberband is far to springy to provide adequate controls.
