Meet Monkus, A Work in Progress
March 7th, 2007 by FweebThe very excellent Jonathan Williamson (a.k.a. mr_bomb in the Blender community) recently completed his first tutorial DVD on modeling the female face and head. In his preparations for his next DVD, he asked if I would create an interesting character that he could model. The stipulations were that the character needed to be humanoid (at least a biped), interesting to look at, and generally upbeat and friendly (not my standard creepy/gloomy fare).
Well, I’ve been spending some time on him, and I think I’m nearing completion. However, before I run him through the last erase/redraw pass to punch up his contrast a bit, I figured I’d post some scans of his progress. So, without further ado, I present you with Monkus – The Making-of (as with everything, click on the thumbnail to see the larger version):
As you can see, he’s a kind of monkey-plumber. The idea being that having feet with opposable thumbs would benefit him in a job where he had to work and climb around an abundance of pipes. Originally he had a tail, but that was removed as per mr_bomb’s suggestion (and I agree it’s an improvement). I still have to run an erase pass on him and tweak some perspective issues with his environment, but I’m getting close to being satisfied with it.
Comments and critiques are more than welcome.
